FAQ
Free quote template FAQ
What should an Australian quote template include?
A proper Australian trade quote needs your business name and ABN; the customer's details; a unique quote reference; dated, itemised lines for labour and materials; a subtotal; 10% GST shown clearly; a validity period (14 or 30 days is standard); deposit and payment terms; and your licence number where your trade requires one (electrical and plumbing licences are issued per state). Our templates include all of those.
Should I quote GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive?
For residential customers, quote a GST-inclusive total. Under Australian Consumer Law you must display the full price a consumer will actually pay, so a quote that hides GST until the invoice is asking for a dispute. For commercial and trade-to-trade work, GST-exclusive line items with GST added at the bottom are the convention. The templates show line items ex-GST with a clear GST line and a GST-inclusive total, so both audiences can read it.
Are the templates free?
Yes, completely free. Enter your email on the template page and we'll send you Word, PDF, and Google Docs versions.
Can I customise the templates?
Yes. Add your logo, change colours, adjust the line items. The Word and Google Docs versions are fully editable. The PDF is a ready-to-print reference copy.
Do I need to be registered for GST to use these templates?
No. If your turnover is under the ATO's A$75,000 threshold you don't have to register for GST — leave the GST line out and don't add 10%. Once you're registered, use the GST line on every quote. The templates handle both.
Are these templates legally binding?
A quote becomes a binding agreement once your customer accepts it, provided both parties' details are clear and the terms are specified. The templates include standard Australian trade quote language with a validity period and deposit terms, but for unusual or large-value work — or anything covered by your state's home building contract rules — get proper advice first.
Why use QuickPrice instead of a template?
Templates are a good start, but they're a blank form, you still have to price every material and labour line by hand. QuickPrice writes the line items for you, prices materials at current Australian rates, calculates labour at your local rate, adds GST, and generates a branded PDF in under a minute.
